Part 3 Course : The ADI instructional ability test
| The Part 3 test is divided into two 30 minute sessions. 10 Pre Set Tests (PST) are available for the examiner to choose from. Each PST has 2 phases both of which last 30 minutes. For example the PST 2, phase 1 will involve the examiner role playing a beginner where you will need to teach controls of the vehicle. Phase 2 will involve the examiner role playing a higher level of driving experience where you will need to teach crossroads. During both parts of the test the examiner will test your ability as an instructor. He or she will be asking questions and making mistakes. |

Based on the subject the examiner has chosen, he or she will expect you to explain what you hope to achieve on the lesson, give a briefing where required and provide appropriate verbal support whilst on the move to aid the learning process. In particular, the examiner will be expecting you to identify any faults that occur (deliberately made by the examiner), explain why it shouldn't be done and then to clearly teach the correct method.
The examiner will be assessing your ability to:
- Provide a clear and informative brief of the lesson
- Provide clear instruction at the level the examiner sets
- Identify faults
- Analyse and explain faults
- Rectify faults
- Keep control of the lesson
Each 30 minute lesson will be graded from 1 to 6, with grade 4 and above being a pass. The minimum you need to pass Part 3 is a 4/4 on each 30 minute part. Grade 4 is adequate, grade 5 is good and grade 6 is excellent. |
